St. Mary’s County is one of the most popular locations of Southern Maryland due to it economic growth. As of 2010, the population of St. Mary’s County was 105,151. The largest employer in this area is Patuxent River Naval Air Station and its related aerospace contract firms. St. Mary’s County sits on the banks of prestigious St. Mary’s river. The economy of the area is now largely governed by the heavy military presence, as the area is home to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, the Navy’s primary air-test facility, and Andrews Air Force Base, the home of Air Force One. There are plenty of job opportunities in this area and it’s a great place to start your own business. St. Mary’s County is a wonderful place to be.
Charles County, Maryland
Charles County, population of more than 146,000 people, is located in the south central part of Maryland. Charles County is a part of the Washington Metropolitan area. It has more than 750 businesses and/or business representatives that are active members within the Charles County Chamber of Commerce. A popular historical landmark is the Port Tobacco Historic District Tour. You get the chance to visit the cemetery of Thomas Stone and his family. Thomas Stone was one of four Maryland signers of the Declaration of Independence. Then you proceed a short distance to tour Port Tobacco, one of the oldest continuous settlements in the U.S. There are many sites to visit so this area is definitely worth checking out if you live or plan to visit southern Maryland.
Calvert County, Maryland
Calvert County, one of southern Maryland’s finest residential areas, has one of the highest median household income averages in the U.S. The 2010 population estimate recorded over 88,000 residents. Calvert County offers over 215 sq. mi. of beautiful landscapes and over 129 sq. miles of enlivening waters. Many local residents commute to Washington, DC for work and/or retail therapy but Calvert County is the place many desire to reside. It’s quiet, peaceful and can sometimes feels like a place time has forgotten. The schools in Calvert County are great and the food is amazing. The summers are hot and fun but the fall and spring offer even more gorgeous views and relaxing weather.
