In November of 2014 AMSOIL did a study on their signature series 5W-30 Synthetic Motor oil. Their goal was to evaluate the performance of the motor oil to ensure it could withstand the demand out on engines. Not only is it the hot and cold temperatures, the highway miles and long road trips that can put strain on a car’s motor but AMSOIL wanted to put their oil to the test for the purpose of increased performance products.
The oil’s job is to keep all the parts of the engine lubricated, moving freely and decrease carbon buildup. When the motor oil doesn’t do its job pistons seize, bearings are thrown and the occasional rod goes out the side of the block. The stress of turbo kits, nitrous and other bolt on high performance systems put on the engine makes the oil viscosity very important.
In AMSOIL’s case study started with a 100-hour test to simulate real world conditions like highway driving, stand still traffic and extreme temperatures after this the oil was subjected to a 200-hour test. At an independent facility the engine and oil was scrutinized to check for oil thickening, deposits, and engine wear. To our satisfaction after the 200-hour performance test the analysis of AMSOIL 5W-30 synthetic motor oil came back with an excellent rating.
